Takasaka Masanobu was one of Takeda's four main generals. He started as one of Shingen's bodyguards, and worked his way up through the ranks. Takasaka led a key detachment that helped Shingen defeat Uesugi in the fourth battle of Kawanakajima. When Takeda Katsuyori led the main force of the Takeda army to Kyoto, Takasaka was assigned to defend the North border. After the battle of Nagashino, he rushed 8,000 troops up from Kai to secure Lord Katsuyori's retreat from Tokugawa. Of Takeda's four key generals, Masanobu was the only one to survive the battle of Nagashino. He tried very hard to re-establish the Takeda clan after that devastating loss. He died in 1578, with the future of the Takeda family still up in the air.
