Battalions:

Each division in Takeda is made up of four smaller groups, called battalions. The general in charge of the division has direct control over only one of these battalions (the HQ battalion). The other three divisions are controlled by captains, who interpret the orders of the general and then give appropriate instructions to their men.

Infantry divisions also contain a support battalion. If a division is overspecialized (if too many of the men are of the same type), it becomes vulnerable. A support battalion is made up of troops of a different type than those found in the rest of the division. A battalion of archers supports every division of spearman. Swordsman, archery, and rifle divisions are each supported by one battalion of spearmen, to protect them from cavalry charges. Cavalry divisions have no support battalion in Takeda, because infantry units cannot keep up with the mounted troops.
